PN MP Adrian Delia has ruled out contesting a deputy leadership position in the Nationalist Party (PN), following his narrow defeat to Alex Borg in the recent leadership election by just 44 votes.

Delia had entered the PN leadership race after previously serving as PN leader from 2017 to 2020.

In an interview with Times of Malta, Delia stated that there is currently no vacancy for the deputy leadership role and that speculating about it would imply an attempt to unseat the current deputy leader, Alex Perici Calascione, which he does not wish to do.

Pressed on whether this meant he was uninterested in any PN leadership role, Delia clarified that he is not interested in contesting another internal election. However, he remains open to serving the party in a capacity where needed.

Delia emphasised his full commitment to supporting Borg and continuing to advocate for the party's cause. He confirmed he will contest the next general election on two districts and expressed confidence that the PN could secure victory within a year, echoing Borg's recent claims. Asked whether he might consider a leadership bid should the PN lose the next general election, Delia stated he is "absolutely not interested," but acknowledged the unpredictability of politics. Delia has repeatedly affirmed his willingness to serve wherever the party requires him.
