During a consultative meeting with the Malta Development Association (MDA) on the upcoming budget, Budget 2026, Prime Minister Robert Abela said that the government's vision seeks to promote higher standards, greater professionalism, and an improved commitment towards a sustainable future.

The Maltese Prime Minister stated that government measures taken from now onwards must be sustainable, meaning that "while we want to ensure that we continue to have economic progress, it is equally important to ensure that there is a positive social impact and that there are safeguards for the natural environment that surrounds us."

During this meeting in Castille, PM Abela remarked that the country has managed to build itself a diversified economy which features a wide range of sectors that are contributing to the experienced economic growth.

He added that the government is observing positive prospects for sustained economic growth in the Maltese islands, even for the coming years.

The Prime Minister noted that the government has already been implementing measures to promote professionalism and higher standards in the country in recent years. Speaking with the MDA, he brought up the examples of the 138 helpline for people to report construction abuses or concerns on buildings, as well as joint inspections being carried out by both the OHSA and the BCA to ensure that issued standards continue to be maintained.

He continued that since the BCA began providing citizens with free professional assistance if they are affected by construction sites near them from lawyers and architects a year ago, 1,200 people have used this service.

Also participating in this meeting were Ministers Owen Bonnici, Silvio Schembri, Jonathan Attard and Chris Bonett, Parliamentary Secretary Omar Farrugia; Chris Agius; and the Head of the Secretariat of the Office of the Prime Minister, Colonel Mark Mallia.
