Updated: Labour counters EP debate on Malta with one in Maltese Parliament on Wednesday

The Labour Party said it will be countering a debate on the rule of law in Malta at the European Parliament on Tuesday with one in the Maltese Parliament the next day.

In a statement Saturday, the PL described the EP debate as another attack against our country "orchestrated" by the Nationalist Party. The PL believes the debate was sparked by a visit to Brussels by PN leader Alex Borg earlier this week, but the date of the debate had been set long before Borg's visit.

The debate "against Malta" continues "to damage Malta and cast a bad shadow to our country abroad", the Labour Party, said.

To counter this, the PL will hold a debate "in favour of Malta and our people in the Maltese Parliament" with a motion tabled by the Labour Parliamentary Group's Whip Naomi Cachia.

In reply, the Nationalist Party said that once again, because they are in panic and backed into a corner, Robert Abela and the Labour Party continue to repeat their own lie.

Unlike Robert Abela and the Labour Party, Alex Borg and the PN remain focused on addressing the problems faced by Maltese and Gozitan families.
