Dwal Ġodda is proud to present Menz by Francis Ebejer, one of Malta's most compelling dramatists, on 14, 15, and 16 November at the Għargħur Theatre.
Menz stands as a landmark of modern Maltese theatre. Written in 1967 and premiered at Teatru Manoel that same year, it was restaged there in 1991 and performed internationally in Tokyo, Spain, and Venice. What makes Menz unique is the way it weaves symbolism through situations and dialogue, creating an atmosphere that unsettles and intrigues, rather than offering straightforward answers. It's a play that still resonates today, inviting audiences to experience its layered meanings on stage.
This revival is directed by Martha-Marie Gauci, whose 2022 staging of Ġaħan ta' Bingemma was praised for its bold energy. Following in a strong family tradition of theatre-making, she brings a contemporary eye to Ebejer's most thought-provoking work.
The protagonist roles are entrusted to a vibrant ensemble: Yanika Aquilina, Martin Gauci, Roberto Agius, Fabrizio Falzon, Edel Pace, Peter Fenech, Priscilla Tabone, Luke Sammut, Rita Zarb, Orlanda Grech, Michela Buttigieg, Nicole Mangion, Rose Aquilina, Claire Camilleri, Oscar Zerafa Gregory, Dario Vella u Reno Micallef - with expressive choreography by Martina Joy Azzopardi, enriching the symbolic layers of the text with rhythm and movement.
