Leader of the PN Alex Borg said he spent a total of €41,033.89 on his campaign for the PN Leadership post.
In a statement, the PN said that Borg has published an account of the expenses from his campaign held over the past summer as part of the process that led to his election as Leader party.
The document, signed by Borg, shows that he spent € 15,156.49 on advertising and promotional campaigns, € 14,717.40 was spent on venue rental and audio visual equipment, € 9,360.00 was spent on mail distribution costs, and € 1,800.00 was spent on entertainment - hiring of bands, the document Borg published shows.
"This campaign that was fully financed through funds raised from various fundraising activities, as well as through contributions from my own personal and family resources," Borg declares in the document.
"As I have always said and insisted, politics without vested interests brings with it absolute transparency. This is how I operate. With me, you always know where you stand. That is why I am taking this step, even though it is not required by law," Alex Borg stated.
Borg said that this act of transparency should become a new political standard in the country, not an exception. "The same cannot be said of Robert Abela who, despite having been Leader of the Labour Party for more than five years, has still not published the accounts of his own leadership campaign," Borg said.
He went on to explain that, since 2023, Robert Abela and his Cabinet have also stopped publishing their list of personal assets, as required by law. "Beyond what the law demands, it is in the public's interest to know where they stand with the politicians who govern them. The people deserve transparency, not secrecy."
The PN Leader said that while Robert Abela "continues his campaign of alienation and personal attacks - against a clear backdrop of internal division within the Labour Party - he will remain focused on serious and positive work that places the people's wellbeing above the politics of attacks and fear."
Borg also said that the "main motor" of his campaign was "powered and indeed made possible by the commitment, dedication and hard work of an incredible team of volunteers who devoted their time, energy, and personal resources to make it possible."
