Total outbound tourists for the third quarter in 2025 were estimated at 270,635, an increase of 7.9% over the corresponding quarter of 2024, the National Statistics Office said.

"Total nights spent increased by 16.7% and amounted to 2,093,884."

During the quarter under review, a total of 193,557 outbound tourist trips were undertaken for holiday purposes, followed by 48,474 trips for visiting friends and relatives. Most outbound tourists were aged between 25 and 44 years (43.5%), followed by those within the 45-64 age bracket (30.6 %), the NSO said.

Outbound tourists towards EU and non-EU countries increased by 6.1% and 14.1% respectively, when compared to the same quarter of 2024. Italy remained the most popular destination, with a share of 38.7% of total tourist trips, the NSO said.

Total nights spent by outbound tourists in the third quarter of 2024 reached 2.1 million nights. The largest share of guest nights (55.5%) was spent in rented accommodation establishments. The average length of stay of total outbound tourists stood at 7.7 nights, the NSO said.

Total estimated expenditure by outbound tourists between July and September stood at €304.3 million, equivalent to an average €1,125 per capita.

January-September 2025

Total outbound tourist trips in January-September 2025 numbered 661,026, an increase of 6.8% over 2024. Total nights spent by outbound tourists went up by 16.8%, reaching 4.9 million nights. In addition, total estimated outlay by resident tourists stood at €681.8 million, 16.5% higher than that recorded in 2024, the NSO said.
