Malta successfully hosted MedTech Malta 2025 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta from 12 to 14 November 2025, welcoming over 2,000 delegates, including healthcare innovators, investors, startups, and policy-makers.
The three-day event reinforced Malta's growing reputation as a hub for medical technology and health innovation.
"MedTech Malta 2025 showcased strong support from Malta's political leadership, reflecting the government's commitment to advancing MedTech under Malta Vision 2050," a statement about the event read.
Prime Minister Robert Abela opened the conference, stating: "Malta is committed to becoming a European leader in life sciences, digital health, and medical technology. Collaboration between government, academia, and industry is key to achieving this vision."
Silvio Schembri, Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects, praised Malta's proactive approach: "Malta is determined to stay at the forefront of global health technology and create opportunities for innovation that benefit patients and the economy alike."
Jo Etienne Abela, Minister for Health & Active Ageing, delivered a video address: "Technological progress in healthcare must remain centred on human wellbeing, ensuring innovations are accessible and impactful for all citizens."
Alex Borg, Leader of the Opposition, attended and offered remarks: "In every innovation, every product, every software, every medication, the most important thing to keep in mind is the end user and the benefit he or she will be receiving."
Dylan Attard, CEO of MedTech World, added: "MedTech Malta 2025 has proven that Malta is not only a hub for innovation, but a place where ideas, investment and collaboration converge to shape the future of healthcare."
A highlight of the event was the announcement that the Cancer Research and Innovation Hub Malta (CRIHM) has been officially recognised as a European Cancer Mission Hub, opening new avenues for clinical research and collaboration at the European level, a statement read.
In the MedTech World Startup Pitch Competition, Galenband, led by CEO Eddie McDaid, won top honours for its 90-day continuous ECG band, offering a wire-free, surgery-free solution for intermittent atrial fibrillation.
The conference welcomed international organisations, including Johnson & Johnson, NVIDIA, and Cleveland Clinic, alongside local startups and investors. Over 50 panels and keynotes covered AI in diagnostics, robotics, digital therapeutics, patient-centred design, and regulatory trends.
"Exclusive forums provided investors, CEOs, and commercial leaders with opportunities to discuss market entry, funding, and operational strategy. CPD-accredited workshops offered hands-on learning for clinicians. Delegates explored Malta's heritage through guided tours of Valletta and Mdina, while visits to DiHubMT × Digital Innovation Hub highlighted Malta's innovation infrastructure. Alumni from the MedTech Innovator programme shared their journeys, demonstrating how Malta supports emerging startups on a global stage," the statement read.
MedTech Malta 2025 concluded with an Awards Night, recognising individuals and organisations making meaningful contributions to healthcare.
Dylan Attard announced that flagship MedTech World events will expand to four global locations in 2026, beginning with MedTech World Dubai in February.
