The Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation has appointed an Advisory Board in light of the incident that occurred yesterday at St Clare College, Pembroke Secondary School.

A 14-year-old boy was grievously injured when he was allegedly stabbed by a fellow student just before school started on Monday.

The role of this board will be to align every initiative with the ongoing work related to the implementation of the National Education Strategy 2024-2030, the government said Tuesday.

The board's aims is to provide strategic and operational recommendations to the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation regarding a Framework on Behaviour Management. It will ensure that all implementation is aligned with national legislation, educational standards, and the principles of student and educator well-being, in accordance with the National Education Strategy.

This board is separate from the work already initiated by the Ministry for Education that will lead to a national Framework on Behaviour Management.

Ms Ritienne Borg Saliba, Director General within the Ministry for Education, has been appointed as Chairperson of the Board, together with the following members:

Professor Dr Anton Grech, Psychiatrist and Professor at the University of Malta;
Professor Saviour Formosa, Professor of Criminology;
Mr Chris Siegersma, Director of the Corradino Correctional Facility;
Ms Elaine German, member of the Malta Union of Teachers;
Ms Maria Camilleri, former educator;
Mr Ryan Portelli, Education Officer for Counselling.
