The Ministry for Social Policy and Children's Rights has continued to support and strengthen the funding of additional children's residential homes, with the aim of further improving the level of services provided.

On Wednesday morning, a social agreement between the Ministry and the Frate Jacoba residence in Marsaskala was extended.

The Minister for Social Policy and Children's Rights, Michael Falzon, announced that this new agreement will involve an investment exceeding one and a half million euros over a three-year period.

"The State continuously invests in this highly sensitive and important sector for our country. This is to ensure that every boy and girl is given equal opportunities, education and health, and access to sports and leisure," stated Minister Michael Falzon.

Fr Ray Scicluna, the Head of Frate Jacoba, spoke about the manner in which educational instruction is delivered, noting that it is provided in a specific and flexible way according to the needs of the children.

In fact, lessons do not take place at fixed times, but rather at the times most suitable for the children and their development. Much of the learning begins with hands-on activities that help children express their emotions, and later they are given lessons related to theory.

Frate Jacoba hosts minors and adolescents with severe behavioural difficulties who are often under alternative care. This means that these children cannot continue living with their biological parents due to an environment that may endanger their wellbeing.

At present, in Malta and Gozo, there are approximately 400 boys and girls living in 20 residential homes for children, where they receive care and attention from dedicated professionals in the sector.
