On the 39th anniversary of the political murder of Raymond Caruana, the Nationalist Party this evening paid tribute to the "Martyr for Freedom", who fell victim to a political attack on the PN Club in Gudja.
Caruana was killed on 5 December 1986 when shots were fired in the direction of the Gudja PN club where an activity had been held. Caruana died on site. Nobody has ever been charged with the murder.
Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista Alex Borg and several party officials laid flowers on the grave of Raymond Caruana and attended a Mass for his soul at the Gudja Church.
After that, a political activity was held, addressed among others by PN Leader Alex Borg, who recalled how Raymond was killed innocently during a social event intended to celebrate the beginning of the democracy that Malta and Gozo so badly needed at the time.
The PN Leader said that it is important to continue remembering what happened in the past, in the hope of building a better future and ensuring that the dark days of the 80s never repeat themselves.
