Where angels gathered

Saturday, 27 December 2025, 09:50 Last update: about 6 months ago

The recent exhibition Angel Encounters by Sandrina England, held at the Millenium Chapel in St Julian's, has now drawn to a close, leaving behind a trail of light, colour, and heartfelt moments.

The launch opened with a blessing by Father Hillary Tagliaferro, who was recently awarded a Doctorate Honoris Causa by the University of Malta. Professor Anton Grech, a long-time family friend, offered a warm and thoughtful introduction. In her own words of thanks, Sandrina recalled St Augustine's reflection that angels are closest to God and resemble Him the most - a sentiment that echoed beautifully through the works on display.

The atmosphere was lively and joyful as friends, family, and admirers gathered to view - and in many cases, acquire - the paintings. In a touching gesture, Sandrina presented her mother and a few close friends with elegant bouquets of blue roses, which drew admiration and added a note of quiet splendour to the evening.

Meanwhile, the Millenium Chapel's kitchen worked its own small miracles, offering a steady flow of delicious canapés and sandwiches that delighted guests throughout the event.

The angels themselves were met with great affection, and as the evening came to an end, everyone left with full hearts and a sense of gentle uplift.

As the chapel doors closed on Angel Encounters, the memory of those luminous figures lingered - a reminder that art, like the angels it portrays, has a way of brushing past us lightly yet leaving us changed.
