48 years on since Karin Grech’s gruesome murder, the Labour Party has paid tribute to her memory on the anniversary of her death, on Sunday, 28 December.

Prime Minister Robert Abela, together with Labour Party administration and a number of PL MPs, laid flowers at her monument in San Ġwann.

Prime Minister Abela said that Karin Grech’s memory remains relevant till this day as in countries near Malta, many atrocities are being witnessed that remind us of the significance of peace. PM Abela noted that Karin Grech’s parents paid the highest price for their beliefs, losing their daughter in the prime of her life because her father, Edwin Grech, continued to care for patients.

The Prime Minister called for everyone to remember the painful episodes that have occurred in Malta’s past so that we can further appreciate peace and national unity.

Abela said that the importance of peace can never be overemphasised and that we as a people must recognise the foundation of those who came before us, whose work has allowed us to reap the wealth and prosperity achieved by our country.

Nearly a full half-century has passed since Karin Grech was killed by a letter-bomb addressed to her father, Edwin Grech. Karin Grech had opened a wrapped package meant for her father and died shortly after the letter-bomb promptly detonated. She was 15 years old. Her father, Dr. Grech, used to specialise in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
