Man remanded in custody after breaching bail conditions and threatening police officer

A 25-year-old man from St Julian's, Kurt Muscat, was charged on New Year's Day with breaching the conditions of bail under which he had previously been released.

The prosecution told the court that the accused has an acute drug problem and that on 29 December he failed to report to the St Julian's police station as required. The following day, he allegedly threatened a police officer. Muscat pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Leonard Caruana denied the request for bail, stating that the court did not have peace of mind that the accused would comply with court orders. The magistrate noted that Muscat had already been found guilty of breaching bail conditions on two occasions last year.

The prosecution was led by Inspector Omar Zammit. Legal aid lawyer Sarah Ciliberti represented the accused.
