A man has received an 18-month prison sentence suspended for two years after pleading guilty to a series of cybercrime and domestic violence-related offences.

The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo, who took into account the accused's early admission to all charges. The court heard that the offences were committed in late December 2025 and included unauthorised access to computer data, misuse of electronic communication networks to issue threats, and repeated conduct that caused his partner to fear violence. Some of the incidents took place in the presence of minors.

The court noted that the behaviour constituted domestic violence under Maltese law and was aggravated by the fact that it occurred within a family relationship and over an extended period. The man was also found guilty of breaching public order. In light of his guilty plea, the court did not proceed with the hearing of further evidence.

In determining the sentence, the magistrate considered the accused's clean criminal record, his early admission of guilt, and a risk assessment indicating a low likelihood of reoffending.

Alongside the suspended sentence, the court issued a protection order in favour of the victim. The accused was warned that any breach of the imposed conditions could result in the prison sentence being enforced.

Given the family nature of the case and the involvement of minors, the court ordered a ban on the publication of the names of the parties. A copy of the judgment was forwarded to the Attorney General in accordance with legal requirements.

The prosecution was led by Police Inspector Christian Cauchi, while the accused was represented by lawyers Michaela Giglio and Joe Giglio.
