11 die in falls or workplace accidents in 2025

A total of 11 people died in Malta and Gozo in 2025 after falling from a height or in other workplace accidents, statistics kept by The Malta Independent show.

One of the 11 was crushed between machinery and cargo inside a shipping container and another was electrocuted while working in Għajn Tuffieħa.

Six of the victims of falls were foreign nationals.

14 April: Worker crushed between products and machinery

A 34-year-old Nigerian man died after being crushed by products and machinery while unloading a shipping container. He was certified dead at the factory.

2 May: Man dies in five-storey fall

A 40-year-old Pakistani man fell from a five-storey construction site. The accident took place in Salvu Asteria Street, Żabbar. He was certified dead on site.

23 June: Man falls to death trying to exit locked apartment

A 40-year-old Indian man died in Rabat, Gozo, after falling around five storeys into an internal courtyard in Triq Giorgio Borg Olivier. Police were informed at around 8.30pm. The victim reportedly fell while attempting to climb out of the window after being locked inside his apartment.

11 July: Young Englishman dies after hotel balcony fall

A 25-year-old man from England died after falling from a hotel balcony in Spinola Road, St Julian's at around 4am.

13 July: Elderly man dies in four-storey fall

An 81-year-old man died after falling around four storeys into a courtyard at his residence in Vjal il-Bon Pastur, Ħal Balzan. Emergency services were called at 4am, and he was certified dead shortly afterwards.

27 August: Worker electrocuted in Għajn Tuffieħa

A 41-year-old man from Żebbuġ suffered an electric shock while working in Pamla Street at 12.30pm and fell into a ditch. He later died at hospital.

8 September: Injured ship worker succumbs to injuries

A 41-year-old Indonesian man died in hospital after suffering serious injuries from a one-storey fall on a ship berthed in Marsa. He passed away following his transfer to Mater Dei Hospital.

31 October: Man dies after fall in San Gwann

A 28-year-old Indian man died after falling from an apartment block in Sant'Antnin Street, San Gwann at around 11.45am.

17 November: Man dies after four-storey fall in St Paul's Bay

A 41-year-old man died after falling four storeys into a shaft in Kavetta Street, St Paul's Bay. He was taken to hospital but died later.

19 November: Worker dies on Pembroke construction site

A 25-year-old Turkish man, died after a two-storey fall at the db Tower construction site in Pietru D'Armenia Street, Pembroke at around 7.45am.

2 December: Man dies as truck malfunctions and falls two storeys

A 50-year-old man from Rabat, later identified as Manuel Ciantar, died after falling two storeys when the truck he was in malfunctioned in Dwejra, limits of Mġarr, at around 1.15pm. A medical team and members of the Civil Protection Department attended the scene, but the man was certified dead on site.
