PN leader Alex Borg stated on Friday that the elderly in Malta and Gozo deserve nothing short of top-quality services and environments that offer dignity, care, and a better quality of life.

Borg made this declaration on Friday morning as he visited two elderly residences – Porziuncola by Golden Care in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq and The Imperial in Sliema.

During these visits, Borg highlighted the importance of continued investment in residential homes for the elderly. He observed that this sustained investment is necessary in order for living standards for the elder demographic to keep rising, as well as to ensure that “the best possible care” can be provided to those who have given so much to the country throughout their lifetime.

The Opposition leader remarked that visits like these allow him to closely follow the investments being made in this “crucial sector,” while encouraging more elderly residences to continue striving to provide the utmost possible quality of service for Malta’s older generations.

The Nationalist Party, according to Borg, believes in the country’s elderly and that to the party, they are not seen as numbers or as burdens to society, but as the individuals who built the country we live in today.

On Friday morning, Borg spoke to several elderly residents within these homes – many of which extended their New Year wishes, congratulated him for his recent election as party leader, and recounted memories from their lives to him.

Welcomed by the residences’ management and staff, including carers and nurses, Borg was given a tour of the respective facilities. These included gardens, treatment rooms, bedrooms, dining areas, and common spaces.

The Porziuncola residence in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq hosts approximately 400 residents, while The Imperial in Sliema hosts some 250 residents, both with growing waiting lists.
