Justice Minister Jonathan Attard said that government is committed to delivering a more effective and efficient justice system, as he presented warrants to six newly qualified lawyers on Monday.

Addressing the ceremony, Attard said that the justice sector is benefiting from record levels of investment across all institutions, accompanied by significant legislative reforms and increased professional specialisation, a government statement said.

“While we recognise that much still needs to be done, court performance figures for 2025 confirm our commitment to further improvement, with the number of cases decided exceeding the number of new cases filed,” Attard said.

Attard said that Malta’s justice system is undergoing unprecedented investment in human resources, legislative reform and specialisation.

He acknowledged that reforms in the justice sector are never easy, but said the government remains determined to continue implementing important and necessary changes.

Attard referred to further reforms that will soon be presented to Parliament, including changes to the Family Court and reforms related to compilation of evidence proceedings.

“As a government, we remain committed to supporting the legal profession and those who seek its services. Much has been done, but much remains to be done to ensure a more effective justice system, with more efficient procedures, in the best interests of our citizens,” he said.

The ceremony was also addressed by Judge Anthony Ellul and Chamber of Advocates representative Paul Micallef Grimaud.

Also present were Permanent Secretary Johan Galea, Attorney General Victoria Buttigieg, State Advocate Chris Soler and Courts Services Agency CEO Vanessa Grech.
