Maltese mountaineer Rita Saliba has described her return from her latest successful summit on Mount Aconcagua, Argentina, as "bittersweet," saying that the expedition gave her far more than just a climb, but also lifelong friendships and renewed purpose.

In comments shared after returning to Malta on Monday from last week's incredible feat, Saliba said she was overjoyed with reaching Aconcagua's summit, while also deeply grateful for the guides and teammates who supported her throughout the expedition.

"The guides, group and the company that helped me to the top were so incredibly fun, good-humoured and supportive," she said, adding that despite missing the comfort of her own bed and a good shower, she would have gladly skipped it to restart the expedition all over again.

Saliba said that while she left Malta focused solely on reaching the summit, she returned with life-long friendships she hopes will continue on future mountain climbs.

"My next target will be Denali, the tallest mountain in North America," she said, describing it as one of the more challenging mountains of the Seven Summits, due to its remoteness, lack of infrastructure and glaciated terrain.

Located in Alaska, Denali rises 20,310 feet above sea level and is considered the tallest mountain in the world from base to peak on land, measuring around 18,000 feet.

Saliba is expected to attempt the ascent towards the end of May, following months of intensive training and preparation.

She said that her expeditions go beyond personal achievement, as they are tied to her ongoing fundraising efforts to support animals in need of care and protection.

"This expedition has a deeper purpose for me," Saliba said, urging the public to continue supporting her cause, helping her help animals.
