The police caught street racers and drivers driving at excessive speed on Sunday night.

The Police said they carried out several inspections in the Ta' Qali area following reports of dangerous driving and illegal racing on Sunday night.

While police officers were in Triq San Ġakbu in Attard, they heard two vehicles being driven at excessive speed and appearing to be racing. The police followed the vehicles and observed the drivers ignoring traffic signals, carrying out dangerous manoeuvres, and creating a serious risk to other road users.

The vehicles were subsequently stopped, and the drivers - two 18-year-old youths - were identified and informed that charges will be brought against them.

Later, while the police were on patrol in Triq Durumblat, Mosta, they noticed three other vehicles being driven at excessive speed, with one of them even attempting to overtake by driving against traffic.

The police managed to stop one of the vehicles, where the driver was identified, and shortly afterwards the other two vehicles were also located, with the remaining drivers likewise being identified.

The three drivers - two 21-year-old youths and another aged 26 - were informed that charges will be brought against them.

The Police remind the public that dangerous driving and street racing endanger lives and that they will continue to take action against anyone who breaks the law and puts others at risk.
