Police action against illegal street racing and dangerous driving continued on Tuesday night, with officers intercepting multiple vehicles across Attard, Mosta, Ta' Qali and Rabat in a series of operations that led to several drivers being charged and one car being confiscated.

The Police said that the operation began in Triq San Ġakbu, Attard, after officers heard two vehicles being driven at excessive speed and apparently racing.

The vehicles were followed, during which the drivers were seen ignoring traffic signals, carrying out dangerous manoeuvres and creating a serious risk to other road users. The two vehicles were later stopped and the drivers, both 18-year-old youths, were identified and informed that charges will be brought against them.

Later, while police were on patrol in Triq Durumblat, Mosta, three more vehicles were noticed being driven at excessive speed, with one of them even attempting to overtake by driving against traffic. One vehicle was stopped immediately and the other two were traced shortly afterwards. The three drivers - two aged 21 and another aged 26 - were also informed that they will be charged.

Further enforcement continued later that night in other parts of Malta.

In a separate statement issued on Monday, the Police said they had maintained continuous patrols and inspections in the Ta' Qali and Rabat areas in connection with traffic irregularities and reports of dangerous driving.

The Police reiterated that dangerous driving and street racing pose a serious threat to public safety and said that enforcement action will continue against anyone who puts lives at risk.
