A part of the rock-face which overlooks the Għar Lapsi coastline has collapsed, with footage uploaded to social media showing more damage to the picturesque bay which was battered by Storm Harry over a week ago.

Għar Lapsi in Siggiewi was one of the most devastated areas by Storm Harry, with a lot of damage sustained to the bay itself and several boathouses and ancillary facilities such as slipways around it.

Citizen Bertu Pace uploaded footage on Monday showing that a part of the rock-face which overlooks the bay and which is usually secured by wire netting to prevent smaller rocks falling onto bathers had collapsed.

This was after Malta was battered by even more strong winds over the weekend.

Transport Minister Chris Bonett said in a Facebook post meanwhile that the weather had left devastating repercussions on several areas such as Għar Lapsi.

“I appeal, as already communicated, for people to observe the signs that have been stuck in the zone, especially because several parts are unstable and are dangerous,” Bonett said.

He said that studies are ongoing on the rock-face and also said that those with ideas on how to regenerate Għar Lapsi may contribute to a public consultation which is currently ongoing.
