A 19-year-old man has been charged in connection with a domestic violence incident in Tarxien, after allegedly threatening to kill his grandmother if his mother did not provide him with money for drugs.

The court heard that police were called to a residence following a report involving the accused, his mother and his grandmother. The grandmother later filed a domestic violence report, stating that the young man has a cannabis habit and regularly pressures family members for money.

On the day in question, the accused allegedly demanded money from his mother through a video call after forcing his grandmother to contact her. The mother reportedly said she was willing to give him the money but asked him to collect it from Valletta, explaining she could not transfer the funds electronically at the time.

Prosecutors said the situation escalated after this response. The accused is alleged to have grabbed a knife, held it to his grandmother's neck and threatened both women. A six-year-old child was present during the incident.

During the arraignment, the defence requested a pre-sentencing report. The prosecution raised no objection, and the court granted the request. The accused remains under arraignment.

The case is being heard by Magistrate Clare Stafrace Zammit. The accused is represented by lawyer Martina Herrera.
