Throughout 2025, the Maltese police seized over 1,000 kilogrammes in drug busts. Most of this came in the form of cocaine, which comprised 668.09kg.

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri told Parliament on Monday afternoon that in 2025, the Malta Police Force’s Anti-Drug Unit carried out 180 “significant drug seizures.” This includes cases of seizures that were followed up and investigated jointly between the Customs Department and the police.

During the previous 12 months of the calendar year, 1,013.26kg in weighed drugs, 249 cannabis plants, 1,825 XTC tablets, and 414 MDMA pills were recouped by police.

In addition, following the 668.09kg of recovered cocaine, the police seized 314.46kg of cannabis grass, 19.4kg of khat, 4.33kg of cannabis resin, 4.07kg of MDMA powder, a kilogramme of amphetamine, 989.8 grams of heroin, 300 millilitres of gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) solvent, 286.6g of crack cocaine, 198g of synthetic drugs, 111g of ketamine, and 22g of psychedelic mushrooms.

Minister Camilleri said that drug busts do not come by chance, but through intelligence-led policing practices and sometimes technological analysis through its targeted policing.

He added that nowadays, the Police Force does not stop at just carrying out the drug bust, but it follows up to find who is benefitting from these crimes. Minister Camilleri stated that the police work to break apart these criminal rings by also focusing beyond just on the drug traffickers and the drugs uncovered, but also on the connected assets found.
