Kuwaiti Embassy Celebrates

On 6th February 2026, the Embassy of the State of Kuwait in Malta hosted a distinguished reception to celebrate the sixty fifth Anniversary of the Independence of the State of Kuwait, and the thirty fifth Anniversary of the Liberation.

The reception was attended by high-level Maltese dignitaries, including H.E. Myriam Spiteri Debono - President of Malta, Hon. Alex Borg - Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Owen Bonnici, Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government of Malta, as well as Dr. Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing some members of Parliament and senior officials of the Government of Malta, members of the diplomatic corps, business leaders, academics, Kuwaiti students at the University of Malta and friends of Kuwait.

In his speech, H.E. Meshal Almodaf, Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to the Republic of Malta welcomed guests and highlighted the strong and longstanding ties between Kuwait and Malta since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1972 and reflected the steadfast support of the late Professor Guido de Marco, former President of Malta, during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, where in his role as President of the United Nations General Assembly at the time, his principled stance in defending Kuwait's freedom earned him the lasting gratitude and deep respect of the Kuwaiti leadership and people.

H.E. President of Malta highlighted, in her speech, that Malta and Kuwait have enjoyed excellent relations based on respect and shared ideals and she noted that this affinity has been reflected in bilateral agreements and high-level visits, further strengthening the bond between the two friendly countries and she indicated that trade between the two countries spans a broad range of sectors and services, and has increased considerably over the past five years. The fields of education, culture, energy, environmental management, financial services, and cybersecurity present valuable opportunities to further deepen and expand commercial ties.

The evening also featured a visual presentation showcasing Kuwait's traditions and achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and humanitarian work, underscoring the country's ongoing efforts to promote sustainable development and regional stability. Furthermore, Guests were treated to traditional Kuwaiti hospitality and cuisine, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Kuwait.

The celebration served not only as a commemoration of Kuwait's National Day, but also as a reaffirmation of the close friendship and cooperation between Kuwait and Malta, and a shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations in the years ahead.

Please note that this year the Embassy celebrated its National Day on 6th February 2026 because the Holy Month of Ramadan begins on 18th February 2026.
