Transport Malta has issued a safety warning for kayakers and small boat users to stay away from the caves beneath Il-Ponta tal-Imgerbeb in Grand Harbour after recent inspections confirmed that the area remains highly unstable.

The authority said that large rocks and debris are still overhanging the site, creating the risk of further minor collapses and making the area dangerous for anyone approaching too closely by sea.

With the busy summer season approaching, Transport Malta urged kayakers and operators of small vessels not to approach or attempt to explore the caves in the area.

In its warning, the authority stressed that the site continues to pose a safety risk despite recent inspections, and that instability remains a concern due to the possibility of additional rockfalls.

Members of the public using the area by sea have been advised to keep a safe distance from the cliffs and to fully respect any restricted zones in place.

Transport Malta also reminded sea users to consult the official Local Notices to Mariners (LNTMs), which are published on its website, for the latest restrictions and safety guidance related to the area.

The warning comes as marine activity around Malta increases ahead of the summer months, when Grand Harbour and surrounding coastal areas typically see higher numbers of kayakers, boaters and recreational sea users.

Authorities are urging caution and vigilance, particularly in areas where geological instability may not always be immediately visible from the water.
