Transport Minister Chris Bonett has declined to specify how many individuals applied for the government's licence surrender scheme, following a fresh parliamentary question raised on Monday.
Bonett was replying to a parliamentary question made by PN MP Bernice Bonello where he referred the House back to a previous reply he had made to the same question made by Bonello on 18 February, who sought clarification on the number of applicants, specifically youths, who applied for the scheme in which participants surrender their licence.
Bonett on Monday said that his previous reply had been sufficiently clear, however, no specific figures were divulged.
In February's reply, Bonett had said that applications already accounted for more than half of the funds allocated to the scheme.
The licence surrender scheme forms part of broader government efforts aimed at regulating driving behaviour and potentially incentivising safer road use, particularly among younger drivers.
However, limited publicly available data has made it difficult to evaluate the scheme's impact or level of participation.
