Maggie, the mascot of the Saving Our Blue campaign, paid a surprise visit to Year 4 students organised by officials from the Strategic Communications Unit within the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness.

The Saving Our Blue campaign is aimed at spreading the message about the importance of marine conservation and environmental responsibility. With the mascot, learning becomes more engaging, helping children relate to Maggie while inspiring them to care for the environment and marine life, and better understand the importance of protecting our seas.

Maggie is a turtle rescued in 2019 by fishermen off the coast of Wied il-Għajn, after being found entangled in marine debris. She was given care at the Nature Trust Rehabilitation Centre in Xrobb l-Għaġin. Today, Maggie serves as a reminder to take care of our environment and to prevent marine pollution..

During the visit, students were given the activity book Learning with Maggie, designed to help children appreciate the beauty of our seas and the different marine species. The book also explains the harm caused by single‑use plastic and what we can do to protect our seas.
