An 87-year-old man from Lija was seriously injured on Sunday afternoon after the car he was driving crashed into a tree in Attard.

Police said the accident happened at around 5pm in Triq in-Nutar Zarb, Attard.

Preliminary investigations showed that the man was driving a BMW 325 when he lost control and collided with a tree.

Members of the Civil Protection Department and a medical team were called to the scene to assist. The man was later taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance, where he was certified as suffering from serious injuries.

Police investigations are ongoing.
