Labour Party candidate Omar Rababah announced on Thursday that he has been approved by the party's Executive to contest the upcoming general election on the sixth and seventh electoral districts.

In a Facebook post, Rababah said he had received the backing of the Labour Party's National Executive by what he described as an "extraordinary majority."

He thanked party members for their trust, support and encouragement, describing the candidacy as a responsibility he was accepting "with humility, seriousness and full commitment."

Rababah said he intends to serve as "a strong social voice."

He will be contesting the sixth district, which includes Qormi, Luqa, Siġġiewi and Ħal Farruġ, as well as the seventh district, comprising Żebbuġ, Rabat, Dingli, Imtarfa, Baħrija, Tal-Virtù and Imdina.

"Ahead of us there is a lot of work to do together. We look forward with unity, with love towards our country, and with commitment to work for a better Malta," Rababah said.

Rababah has recently faced racist abuse and backlash on social media following the announcement of his political candidacy.
