Three Italian nationals aged 45, 32, and 20 were arrested by the police following a series of "snatch and grab" jewelry thefts at an entertainment establishment in Ta' Qali.
The incidents took place during the night between August 28 and 29, 2026, with the total value of the stolen items exceeding seventeen thousand euro. According to police investigations, which included reviewing security footage, the crimes were coordinated by the same three individuals. The suspects targeted victims by blending into crowds on the dance floor, ripping necklaces directly from victims' necks, and fleeing into the crowd.
Police successfully identified one of the suspects initially, and subsequent surveillance led to the identification of the remaining two accomplices. All three individuals were located and arrested at a residence in Birżebbuġa, where officers recovered several of the stolen necklaces during a search.
The suspects are currently being held in police custody as investigations continue and are scheduled to be arraigned in court today at 2:00 PM before Magistrate Dr. Lara Lanfranco LL.D.
