Borg says he will not disclose energy experts’ name, fearing government witch-hunt

Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg said Friday he will not disclose the names of the experts behind the party's idea for a Mediterranean fuel hub on Hurd's Bank as he fears there will be a government witch=hunt.

Speaking in Luqa, Borg referred to the Prime Minister's statement that he (Robert Abela) would reveal the identity of the alleged "biggest contrabandist in Malta" linked to the PN's proposed fuel hub once the Opposition discloses the experts behind the project.

Borg said that it is the Prime Minister's duty to speak up and say who he met, adding he said he will not divulge the experts' names fearing their persecution. The Prime Minister should have brought in the police if he knew something criminal was taking place, Borg said, adding however that nobody expected the police commissioner to take any action in this regard.

He said that the PN's proposal for a hub in the Mediterranean had been welcomed by the Malta Maritime Forum as a forward-looking idea. "They told us that this is the vision that the country needs," Borg said.

Borg gave a list of measures that the PN is proposing to implement if it wins the 30 May election, starting off with a serious investment in hospitals and medical staff. The Labour Party is saying that the PN cannot distribute cancer medicines for free, "but let me assure you that it can be done."

Similarly, a new PN government promises to reduce energy bills by an average of 30 per cent as from 1 January. The current energy minister who left the country without power for two consecutive summers is saying that the PN is confusing the numbers, but the PN knows that it can do it.

Borg also spoke about the tax cuts that the party is promising, both for individuals and for business. It was the last Nationalist government which, in 2012, had established €60,000 in earnings as the capping when tax would be charged at 35%. Now we are promising that this ceiling will be extended to €80,000, Borg said.

The activity was addressed by the party's candidates on the sixth district.
