The Nationalist Party thanked Finance Minister Clyde Caruana for confirming the facts regarding the financial impact of the fiscal initiative announced today by PN Leader Alex Borg.

This is a serious, responsible and people-centred proposal, delivering a real and substantial tax cut for families, workers, the self-employed and pensioners, and including a firm guarantee that everyone who pays income tax will benefit by a minimum of €1,200 a year - not through words, but through concrete action by means of tax reductions and a refund mechanism, the PN said in a statement.

What Minister Clyde Caruana is deliberately ignoring is that, in his own Budget, he had already committed himself to further changes to the tax bands for 2027 and 2028, which, according to his own words, amount to €160 million in tax cuts, the PN said.

The €130 million figure announced by the PN represents the true additional net cost, over and above what the Government has already committed itself to, after taking into account revenue recovered from increased consumption through VAT and other taxes resulting from a better-performing economy. This means, clearly and unequivocally, that the Minister's attacks are not based on facts, but on political panic.

This confirms two simple truths which the Government seems afraid to admit: first, that the Partit Nazzjonalista's proposal is entirely implementable; and second, that the country can afford it without risk and without essential services being affected.

The Partit Nazzjonalista's cost estimates were prepared by serious, independent experts, using prudent and responsible forecasts. We are absolutely confident in their conclusions and welcome the Minister's statements as further confirmation that our calculations are sound, credible and realistic.

Unlike a Government that gives a little back to some while forgetting others, the PN's proposal is built on one clear principle: everyone benefits, and no one is left behind, the party said.
