A Labour government, if re-elected, will continue to work for families, mental health and youths, the party’s deputy leaders and the Prime Minister’s wife said in a political activity on Wednesday night.
During a discussion held in Birkirkara, the Prime Minister’s wife Lydia Abela, Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg and Labour Party Deputy Leader Alex Agius Saliba highlighted the work and vision of Prime Minister Robert Abela, emphasizing the social measures and commitment of a Labour Government to stand by the people at every step in order to continue strengthening the quality of life of the Maltese and Gozitan people.
The Prime Minister was not in attendance at the event.
Lydia Abela said that Robert Abela is a Prime Minister full of energy who works tirelessly with and for the people, even during international challenges and an intensive electoral campaign. She said that despite all his responsibilities, he remains close to the people, always ready to listen, understand and help.
She emphasized the progress made in favour of women in recent years, particularly the increase of women in the workforce thanks to measures such as free childcare and other initiatives introduced by the Labour Government. Abela said that while much has been achieved, more still needs to be done so that more women can advance in their careers and be better represented in different sectors.
Abela also spoke about mental health, saying that the time has come for mental health to be normalized and treated with the same seriousness as physical health. She stated that the “Int Malta” manifesto includes concrete measures to strengthen mental health services in communities and schools, while every person will have the right to a mental health check with the psychologist of their choice. She also stressed the importance of identifying mental health problems from an early age so that children receive the support they need in time.
Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg said that the “Int Malta” manifesto is built around the individual and the family, with specific measures for people at every stage of their lives.
Borg also said that the Labour Party has a strong team of candidates full of energy and enthusiasm to continue implementing the vision of the “Int Malta” manifesto. He said that the Labour Party’s greatest project is the people themselves, stressing that the manifesto’s proposals are intended to support people at every stage of life — from the moment a family is expecting a baby, to the support given to pensioners and families going through different challenges.
He mentioned assistance for parents, young people, first-time buyers and pensioners, while stressing that the Labour Party has credibility because it has always delivered on its promises. Dr Borg said that the people know that in difficult moments the Labour Government was capable of leading with seriousness, competence and stability.
Alex Agius Saliba said that Robert Abela stands out for his social conscience and his continuous commitment towards families, young people and pensioners. He said that the Labour Party has a clear track record of concrete measures that improved people’s lives, including pension increases, higher stipends and assistance for first-time buyers.
He also said that the Labour Party has credibility because the measures it is proposing are built on what it has already achieved over recent years. Agius Saliba mentioned how a Labour Government increased stipends, introduced assistance for first-time buyers and continued strengthening pensions, while insisting that the Labour Party remains the party that provides real opportunities for young people and Maltese and Gozitan families.
Agius Saliba said that the Labour Party remains a party that listens to the people and acts on their needs, while appealing to the public to choose continuity, stability and progress on the 30th of May by once again placing their trust in the Labour Party and Robert Abela to continue leading the country forward.
