A new agreement between the Lands Authority and the Mqabba Local Council will see a government-owned site in Imqabba transferred for community and cultural use in a move expected to improve public infrastructure and support local festivities, the Culture Ministry said in a statement.

The land, located in Triq Ġorġ Martin in Mqabba and measuring approximately 2,000 square metres, will be developed into a community parking area aimed at easing access for residents and visitors.

In addition to the parking facilities, parts of the same site will be allocated to two local musical societies, which play a central role in the village's cultural life.

The Soċjetà Mużikali Madonna tal-Ġilju and the Soċjetà Mużikali Santa Marija Banda Re Ġorġ V will each be granted distinct rights to establish storage facilities for festive equipment used during the village's major annual celebrations.

Minister for Culture Owen Bonnici described the project as a significant initiative for the community, highlighting both its practical and cultural benefits.

He said the development will provide new parking spaces while also supporting the village's traditional festas by giving both band clubs dedicated storage areas.

Bonnici added that the initiative aims to strengthen community life and improve the quality of life for residents across Malta and Gozo, while thanking the local council and the two musical societies for their cooperation in making the project possible.

Imqabba Mayor Grace Marie Zerafa also described the agreement as a historic moment for the locality.

She said the council's goal is to continue strengthening Malta's festa traditions while improving services for residents, including the provision of additional parking spaces.

Zerafa said that the project marks only the beginning of broader efforts to enhance community infrastructure in Imqabba, calling it a development that will benefit the entire locality.

Also present at the signing were Lands Authority CEO Robert Vella, along with Carlo Sciberras and Joseph Zammit, representing the respective local organisations involved.
