A four-month-old baby boy is fighting for his life in hospital after losing consciousness at a childcare centre in Msida earlier today, the police said Friday.

The incident occurred at around noon at a childcare facility located in Garcin Street, Msida. Emergency services were alerted immediately after the infant was found unresponsive, the police said.

Police officers and a medical team from Mater Dei Hospital rushed to the scene, where they found the childcare centre staff already administering emergency first aid to the infant.

The medical team took over the treatment on-site before urgently transporting the baby to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance. Medical professionals have since certified that the young boy is in serious condition.

Duty Magistrate Dr Philip Galea Farrugia LL.D was informed of the case and has launched an official inquiry. Police investigations are ongoing.
