Prime Minister Robert Abela attended the European Union and Western Balkans Summit held in Tivat, Montenegro, where leaders discussed strengthening collaboration amid increasingly complex geopolitical challenges.
During the meetings, Abela emphasized the importance of joint efforts between EU Member States and the Western Balkans to reinforce continental security, stability, and resilience, a Department of Information statement said Friday.
He maintained that open dialogue and concrete partnerships put Europe in a better position to build a safer future for its citizens.
Reflecting on current international conflicts, the Prime Minister noted that the wars between Ukraine and Russia, alongside tensions in the Arabian Gulf, continue to increase the complexity of challenges facing the continent.
He stated that widening cooperation with the Western Balkans is strategically vital to consolidate the continent, foster unity, and secure prosperity.
Discussions at the summit also focused on the integration progress of Western Balkan nations into the EU, as well as initiatives benefiting local citizens and businesses.
Abela reiterated his support for these countries on their path toward EU membership, adding that they should join the European family once all necessary reforms are implemented and established criteria are fully met.
