The Malta Union of Teachers and the University of Malta reached a basis of an agreement for the collective agreement for Lecturers at the Junior College.

Both the union and the government made the announcement on Wednesday.

In a statement, the MUT announced that the directives shall be lifted from tomorrow 18 June.

The union said it will initiate the process which shall lead to the vote of members in the coming days.

The MUT thanked the Education Minister Byron Camilleri, the Permanent Secretary Mr Matthew Vella and the Rector Prof Alfred Vella for this outcome.

In a statement, the Ministry for Education and Sport welcomed the decision by the Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) to suspend its directives affecting Junior College following discussions that led to an agreement in principle between the two parties.  

The Minister for Education and Sport, Byron Camilleri, reiterated that the government remains committed to continuing to improve the conditions of lecturers and teachers, with the ultimate aim of providing an even better educational experience for students.

On Facebook, Prime Minister Robert Abela said that the government had worked to improve workers' conditions, and this was yet another step towards reaching an agreement that will make life better for educators.

The agreement will enable educators to continue providing the best education possible in the best interest of the students.
