Two drivers suffered serious injuries following a traffic accident involving a bus, and Isuzu van and other vehicles in Mosta on Thursday, police said.

The collision occurred in Triq iż-Żejfa and extended into Triq il-Missjunarji Maltin, and involved a bus and a van . The bus eventually came to a stop after striking a wall.

Emergency medical teams were dispatched to the scene, where they assisted passengers travelling on the bus as well as occupants of vehicles involved in the incident.

The driver of the Isuzu van and the bus driver, both aged 49, were transported to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance, where they were later certified as suffering from critical injuries.

Five passengers travelling on the bus were also taken to Mater Dei Hospital for further treatment after sustaining minor injuries in the collision, the police said.

Police said a Peugeot 2008, a Mercedes E220D and a Maruti 800, which were travelling along the same road, sustained damage in the accident. However, their drivers escaped injury.

The road was closed to traffic as emergency responders and police carried out assistance operations and investigations.

Magistrate Dr Monica Borg Galea was informed of the case and appointed an inquiry, while police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident remain ongoing.
