The Planning Authority said Monday that the Irrestawra Darek u l-Villaġġ grant scheme for the Eastern Region has now officially closed after the allocated funds were exhausted.
This scheme, which forms part of a national investment of €33 million aimed at the regeneration of Urban Conservation Areas (UCAs) in Malta and Gozo, attracted strong interest from the outset.
Executive Chairman Johann Buttigieg welcomed the strong response and expressed his appreciation to all those who registered their interest.
"The significant response we have seen for this scheme once again demonstrates the public's commitment to safeguarding our country's built heritage. I would like to thank all applicants who showed interest in this initiative, which continues to play an important role in the regeneration of our localities and in supporting traditional skills," said Mr Buttigieg.
The Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Employment, Jonathan Attard, stated that the success of this scheme confirms the Government's commitment to protecting the built heritage and promoting the sustainable regeneration of our localities.
"The strong interest attracted by the Irrestawra Darek u l-Villaġġ grant scheme clearly shows how much families and property owners value the historical and cultural significance of the heart of our towns and villages. Through this type of tangible investment, we are not only safeguarding our country's architectural identity, but also creating economic and employment opportunities linked to restoration and traditional crafts. This is a direct investment in our communities and in the quality of the urban environment for present and future generations," said Minister Attard.
The Planning Authority said it will now proceed with the evaluation process of the applications submitted, with eligible applicants being invited to move on to the next stage of the process.
