A 72-year-old woman is in serious condition after falling down a shaft at her residence in Triq Ta' Berrini, Kerċem.

The accident was reported to the police yesterday at approximately 5pm.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the woman fell the height of one storey. Members of the Civil Protection Department and a medical team were dispatched to the scene to provide assistance.

The victim was transported by ambulance to the Gozo General Hospital, where she was later certified to be suffering from serious injuries.

Magistrate Dr Jean Paul Grech has initiated a Magisterial Inquiry, while police investigations are ongoing.
