The Malta Union of Teachers has said that 87% of its members approved the conditions of the new collective agreement the union reached with the government.

In a statement on Saturday, the union said it communicated with the Education Minister and with the University Rector to inform them that the Union shall proceed with the signing of the Junior College Collective Agreement.

This followed the members' vote where the absolute majority of members (87%) approved the agreement.

Last week, the union announced that it had reached the basis of an agreement with the University of Malta on the collective agreement for lecturers at the Junior College.

Education Minister Byron Camilleri had said the government "remains committed to continuing to improve the conditions of lecturers and teachers, with the ultimate aim of providing an even better educational experience for students."
