Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg obtained a higher rate of approval than Labour leader Robert Abela at the party's general conference being held this week.
Labour media One said that the Prime Minister obtained 95.3% of approval by the delegates, while Borg obtained 97.7%.
The party's other deputy leader, Alex Agius Saliba, captured 91.6% of the delegates' votes.
In a statement, the PL said the delegates are obliged to confirm the PL leadership after an election.
"This vote is stipulated by the party statute, and reflects the delegates recognition of the work carried out by the PL leadership in the fourth consecutive and historic victory thus remaining the largest political force in Malta," the party said.
The party statement did not give the percentage of votes obtained by each respective leader, but the figures were given by the party's media.
Commenting after the result, Robert Abela expressed his gratitude towards PL delegates for the strong vote of confidence in him and the party leadership. He said that the outcome represents recognition of the work carried out together over recent years and further reinforces the party's responsibility to deliver on its commitments to the Maltese people.
Abela stated that the strong endorsement received from the delegates provides renewed motivation and determination for both the Government and the Labour Party to continue working at a strong pace in favour of Maltese families and businesses.
The General Conference, themed 'INT Malta: Il-Ħolma tiegħek, il-Proġett tagħna', comes to an end Thursday evening. It will be addressed by the Prime Minister and Labour Party Leader Robert Abela, the two Deputy Leaders Ian Borg and Alex Agius Saliba, as well as the Labour Party President Alex Sciberras.
