On Sunday, the Haileybury Choir from Hertford, United Kingdom, will give a concert at St Lawrence Collegiate Parish Church, Birgu, at 6:45pm.
Haileybury School is fully coeducational and is home to around 920 students aged 11 to 18. Opened in 1862 as an independent public school, Haileybury and its pupils have excelled on the stage, in music, in film, in sport and as writers.
Haileybury has a lively Music Department and is renowned for its choral tradition. The Chapel Choir consists of around 50 students who are especially passionate and committed to choral music, singing for concerts and services throughout the academic year. Recent tour destinations have included Australia and Malaysia in 2023 and Italy in 2024, as well as singing at St Paul's and Norwich Cathedral.
The choir will be conducted by Richard Brain, who has been Director of Music at Haileybury since 2024, directing the school Chapel Choir, Schola Cantorum and the Symphony Orchestra. It will be accompanied on the organ by Samuel Ali, College Organist at Haileybury. The repertoire on Sunday includes works by Vivaldi, Palestrina, Tallis, Purcell, Fauré, Bruckner and Vaughan Williams.
Haileybury Malta is currently housed on a beautiful temporary campus in Tarxien. In September, they hope to move to the former Royal Naval Hospital in Mtarfa, which is presently being restored. Haileybury Malta will cater for children from kindergarten level through to the end of senior school.
Entrance to the concert on Sunday is free.
