People in Mellieha this morning woke up to a surreal scene - what they have described as a "blanket of heat" that is covering most of Ghadira Bay.

People on one side of the bay cannot see across to the other side, as boats bobbing on the calm sea appear and disappear in the thick mist.

Malta is experiencing some very hot days, with temperature today Saturday expected to reach 40 degrees with a feel like of 43.

The temperature will remain 40 or above on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, according to the Met Office. It is forecast to go down to 37 on Wednesday before dropping to 33 and 31 on Thursday and Friday.

Health authorities have issued a warning about the extreme weather conditions.
