Two Malta Police officers have been reunited with a man whose life they helped save after he became trapped between a car and a truck in a traffic accident in Sliema earlier this year.

Police Constables K. Scicluna and R. Tonna met Maurice Galea at Mater Dei Hospital a few days ago, where he thanked them for their quick actions following the incident on 6 May.

A Facebook post by the Malta Police Force said that the two officers, who are stationed at the Road Policing Unit, were on patrol when passers-by alerted them to the accident.

When they reached the scene, they found Galea trapped between a car and a truck and suffering severe bleeding.

The officers immediately improvised a tourniquet using a belt, wrapping it around the victim's leg and tightening it to stem the bleeding until further medical assistance arrived.

During the meeting at Mater Dei Hospital, Galea recognised both officers immediately and thanked them for saving his life.

He told the officers that had they not acted so quickly, he believed he would not have survived.

After reflecting on the dramatic events of the day, the conversation took a lighter turn, with Galea and the officers discussing the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

The Malta Police Force praised the officers for their professionalism and commitment during a critical incident, describing their actions as an example of the dedication shown by police officers in carrying out their duties.
