"The recent announcement of enhanced connectivity between Malta and the United States has created new opportunities for investment promotion and international engagement, with FinanceMalta exploring initiatives aimed at strengthening Malta's presence in the North American market."
This was stated by George Vella, Chairman of FinanceMalta during the annual networking event hosted this week at Villa Bighi,
Mr Vella explained how FinanceMalta is engaging with relevant stakeholders, including the US Embassy in Malta, to explore opportunities for a dedicated financial services event in New York in spring 2027.
The initiative would build on FinanceMalta's successful international outreach activities in key financial centres, including its already established presence during the annual Guildhall event in London.
In his speech, George Vella explained how as financial services become increasingly global, investors and businesses are seeking jurisdictions that can combine regulatory certainty and specialist expertise with strong international connectivity and that strengthening Malta's presence in strategic markets remains a key priority in promoting the jurisdiction's capabilities and creating new opportunities for the local financial services ecosystem.
"Malta's financial services sector has always been built on strong international relationships and in this increasingly competitive international environment, maintaining Malta's visibility among investors and decision-makers will be essential to sustaining long-term growth."
"This is why the enhanced links between Malta and the United States represent an exciting opportunity to deepen our engagement with North American investors, businesses and professional communities."
"Our ambition is to continue showcasing Malta's strengths as a trusted, specialised and forward-looking international financial centre. By working together with industry stakeholders and national partners, we can ensure that Malta remains well positioned in an increasingly competitive global environment," he added.
The event was also addressed by FinanceMalta's Chief Strategy Officer Dr Bernice Buttigieg who also announced the publication of FinanceMalta's Annual Report for 2025.
"This latest annual report confirms how FinanceMalta's efforts, coupled with the close collaboration with the Malta Financial Services Advisory Council continue to give direction to an industry that has confirmed itself as one of Malta's strongest economic pillars, that today employs close to 20,000 people and that continues to create opportunities that extend well beyond our sector," said Dr Buttigieg.
"Effective international promotion of Malta's capabilities is essential to ensuring that the country continues to compete successfully for high-value investment, talent and business opportunities. This is why the North American market represents an important opportunity for Malta's financial services sector, particularly as businesses continue to seek jurisdictions offering expertise, accessibility and a stable regulatory environment," she added.
"FinanceMalta remains committed to strengthening Malta's international financial services profile through strategic engagement in key markets, building relationships that support investment, innovation and long-term growth across the sector," concluded Dr Buttigieg.
