GO is strengthening its commitment to Malta's creative industry with a continued multi-million-euro investment in local storytelling, as TOKIS prepares to launch its biggest season yet with ten new Maltese productions premiering from September 2026.
Since its launch in 2022, TOKIS has represented one of GO's most significant investments in Maltese content, with more than €5 million committed by September 2024 following an initial investment of over €2 million at launch.
Four years later, that investment has helped transform the local production landscape, creating opportunities for hundreds of actors, directors, writers, producers and crew members across Malta and Gozo, while giving audiences a dedicated platform for Maltese stories.
The upcoming season alone will bring together around 500 people working across ten new productions, demonstrating the scale of the industry that has grown around TOKIS. The new content slate reflects GO's continued ambition to invest not only in entertainment, but in the sustainability and development of Malta's creative sector.
"TOKIS was never meant to be just a channel. From the outset, we saw it as a strategic investment in the future of Maltese storytelling and in the people who bring those stories to life," says Ryan Mark Mifsud, GO's Content & Digital Media Manager.
"The decision to continue increasing our investment was driven by both audience demand and the confidence that local productions can compete in quality and relevance."
The impact of this investment is visible in TOKIS's rapid growth. The platform now attracts 5.2 million views every month, with a library of over 5,000 hours of entertainment and more than 4,000 episodes available on demand. More than 500 hours of new content have been added this year alone.
"Investing in Maltese productions creates a cycle of growth. It gives creative talent the confidence to develop new ideas, provides more opportunities for industry professionals, and ensures audiences continue to have access to stories that reflect their own experiences," Mr Mifsud explains.
The investment is also expanding the range of content available to viewers. While drama remains a key part of TOKIS, the new season introduces discussion formats and lifestyle programming, reflecting the platform's broader creative ambitions and evolving audience expectations.
Digital accessibility continues to play a central role in making this investment reach as many viewers as possible. Through the GO TV app, customers can access TOKIS content on demand, regardless of their network, allowing Maltese productions to reach new generations of viewers.
"On-demand viewing has changed the way audiences consume content. For younger Maltese viewers especially, TOKIS provides a connection to the language, culture and stories of Malta in a format that fits the way they watch today," added Mr Mifsud.
The new season will also introduce, for the first time, a live programme where customers can interact with the host through calls and social media, further strengthening the relationship between audiences and local content creators.
The new TOKIS schedule launches in September 2026 and will be available on GO TV and the GO TV app.
