Every single member of Malta's Civil Protection Department has officially achieved the prestigious NFPA 1001 international certification, marking a major milestone for the service. This globally recognized standard confirms the highest levels of professional training, competence, and safety in firefighting.

The announcement was made by Minister for Home Affairs and Security Glenn Bedingfield during his first official visit to the department. Minister Bedingfield highlighted that this certification is far more than a formal credential; it is concrete proof that every department member is trained to rigorous international standards and fully prepared to handle any emergency with utmost professionalism and confidence.

He emphasized that the achievement reflects years of continuous investment in personnel, training, technology, and equipment, ensuring that citizens can rely on first responders equipped to the highest global benchmarks.

During the visit, the Minister expressed his gratitude to all personnel for their dedication, particularly praising their intensive efforts in managing multiple fires and emergencies amidst recent high temperatures.

He also referenced a recent World Bank report commending Malta's emergency preparedness and response, which described the Civil Protection Department as a professional service characterized by advanced training, specialized capabilities, and strong inter-agency coordination.
