Injured police officer Johann Vella has shared an emotional public update following the harrowing shooting incident in St Julian's that took place last week, expressing deep gratitude for the colleagues who saved his life and the medical teams who pulled him through.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Vella said "I am still here, fighting and getting better every day". He reserved special praise for his fellow officers on the scene, noting that despite their training, no one is ever truly prepared for such a violent ordeal. Thanks to their perseverance, he was able to reach an ambulance alive.

Vella extended his profound thanks to the emergency department, intensive care unit, and ward staff at the hospital, crediting them with saving his life. He also expressed appreciation for the support shown to him and his family by national dignitaries, including the police commissioner, the prime minister, the president, the leader of the opposition, and members of the judiciary.

Concluding his message, Vella dedicated his survival to his family, singling out his wife and children as the driving force behind his recovery.
