Four people were arrested in St Julian’s in connection with drug trafficking, police said in a statement on Thursday morning.

Police said that initially, two people were arrested after they were found to be in possession of several illegal substances by officers on patrol in St Julian’s.

This was after one of those two arrested – a 38-year-old man from Somali who lives in Birzebbuga – approached a plain-clothes officer and offered to sell him drugs. 

He was immediately arrested, and so was a 41-year-old Romanian living in St Julian’s who was frequently seen with the Somali.

Searches on them resulted in 18 packets of cocaine, 12 packets of cannabis, and a number of bags containing 13 pills of MDMA.

Police then moved to the Romanian man’s residence in St Julian’s, where they found a 27-year-old Maltese man from Senglea and a 33-year-old Colombian man who lives in the same place processing and packaging a substance called tusi.

They were arrested immediately, and 10 more MDMA pills were found at the house as well.

All four are expected to be charged on Thursday before Magistrate Jean Paul Grech, while Magistrate Philip Galea Farrugia is leading an inquiry.
